Summer Youth Programs

Thursdays at the Museum!

These programs, designed for children age 4-9, are a great way for youth to make their personal connection to Kansas history! All programs take place at the Kansas Historical Society in Topeka. For more information, call 785-272-8681, ext. 415.

Learn about life on the trail, make a paper bonnet or vest, and play in our Discovery Place creative play area!

How did people live before Home Depot? Discover what a Wichita grass lodge, Cheyenne tipi, Pawnee earth lodge, and your home have in common. Help build a tipi that you can sit in!

Learn about the explorers who traveled through Kansas, explore our nature trail, and make a journal of your own discoveries! (Activities will take place indoors during inclement weather.)

Learn about transportation in Kansas from the 1850s to the present. Explore a covered wagon, a steam engine train, a car, and an airplane that hovers above the Museum gallery!

Become a member of a family traveling on the Oregon-California Trail! Load your wagon and hit the (nature) trail to experience the challenges travelers on the trail. (Activities will take place indoors during inclement weather.)
