Mike Pompeo was born December 30, 1963, in Orange California. He attended the U.S. Military Academy majoring in mechanical engineering, graduating first in his class. He served as a cavalry officer in the U.S. Army before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Pompeo graduated from Harvard Law School, where he served as editor of the Harvard Law Review. Following graduation, he worked as an attorney in a law firm. Pompeo moved to the Wichita, Kansas, area in 1996 where he met his future wife and founded Thayer Aerospace. He sold his interest in the company in 2006 and became president of Sentry International, a company that manufactures and distributes oilfield equipment. He served as trustee on the Kansas Policy Institute. In November 2010 he defeated Raj Goyle, Democrat, Shawn Smith, Libertarian, and Susan G. Ducey, Reform Party, to be elected to serve Kansas’ Fourth congressional district.
