150 - Kansas will commemorate 150 years of statehood January
29, 2011. Join us 1 - 3 p.m. Friday, November 13, for the second
in a series of public meetings to plan a statewide grassroots
commemoration to celebrate this milestone. The meeting will be
held at the Kansas Historical Society, 6425 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka.

Holiday hours - All facilities will be closed Wednesday, November 11, for Veteran's Day. All facilities will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27, for Thanksgiving. All facilities will be closed Friday, December 25, for Christmas. The State Archives & Library will also be closed Saturday, December 26.

At our State Historic Sites... |
Puppet Fun for Everyone at Grinter Place State Historic Site, Kansas City - Join us Saturday, November 14, for a
family-friendly puppet event. We'll begin with a children’s puppetry workshop at 1 p.m., followed by a performance from the Puppetry Arts Institute at 2 p.m.
The $10 fee for children includes workshop materials for their puppet and admission to the puppet show.
The puppet show is called "Lewis & Clark: A Dog’s Eye View," and explores the Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery through the eyes of Seaman, the first dog to cross the continent.
Special Presentation and Exhibit at Pawnee Indian Museum State Historic Site, Republic - Join us 7 p.m., Sunday, November 22, for a program on the Pawnee Scouts, more than 200 men who fought for the U.S. government against Pawnee enemies such as the Lakotas, Cheyennes, and Arapahos. Admission fee is $1 for the program. Then return to the site in December for a special month-long exhibit featuring the story of George Catlin, who painted more than 600 portraits of Indians from many plains tribes including the Pawnees.
Holiday Events at the State Historic Sites - The following state historic sites are planning holiday open houses or other events: Kaw Mission in Council Grove, Hollenberg Pony Express Station near Hanover, Fort Hays in Hays, Shawnee Indian Mission in Fairway, and Pawnee Indian Museum near Republic. See the calendar below for details, and make plans for your family to experience the holidays in historic fashion!

What's New at the Kansas Museum of History |
In the Museum Store: Holiday Open House - Join us for a holiday open house December 4-6 at the Kansas Museum of History Museum Store. Enjoy samples of Kansas food products and browse our new selection of holiday gifts and decor. Kansas artist Marijana Grisnik will sign prints 1-3 p.m. Saturday, and Ed Grisnik will perform Croatian music.

Last Chance for Lincoln in Kansas Exhibit - Don't miss this exhibit, commemorating the president's 1859 visit to Kansas. The exhibit, which closes Sunday, November 8, features a 34-star flag symbolizing Kansas' admission to the Union, Lincoln campaign objects, and momentos of the assassination.
