Charles Jones
(1844-1919)
- Born in Illinois, came to Kansas in 1866
- Hunted buffalo and captured wild horses on the plains
- Co-founded Garden City in 1879
- Fearing extinction of the buffalo, he established new herds
- First fame warden of Yellowstone National Park
- Immortalized in Zane Grey's The Last of the Plainsmen
