  • Grew up in Marysville and Junction City, worked for Junction City Sentinel
  • First woman war correspondent accredited by U.S. government
  • First woman to serve on four battlefronts
  • Wore army uniform, carried her own equipment, and slept on the ground
  • Known for writing about soldiers’ personal stories during World War I
