Tours - Capitol

Class visits to the Kansas State Capitol can include guided historic and dome tours provided by the Kansas Historical Society.

Historic tours

The historic tour highlights include first floor murals by David H. Overmyer; second floor murals by John Steuart Curry, and the ceremonial governor's office; and spectacular third floor spaces—Senate Chamber, Representative Hall, and the Old Kansas Supreme Court, and State Library of Kansas.

Reservations are strongly encouraged, especially during the legislative session between January and May. The tour is free but the size of each tour group is limited due to space regulations.

Dome tours

The dome tour is breathtaking—literally—with 296 steps and no elevator. The elaborate architecture is highlighted with close up views of the inner and outer domes. he summit offers a unique perspective of the city of Topeka. Participants who reach the cupola earn bragging rights. Souvenir merchandise is available in the Capitol Store on ground level.
