Renovation: Mission
Capitol Restoration Commission Mission:To preserve and enhance the dignity, beauty and architectural integrity of the Statehouse and Statehouse grounds. Goals:To develop a restoration and preservation philosophy for the Statehouse. To develop a strategy to implement the restoration and preservation of the Statehouse. To develop a long term comprehensive master plan for the restoration, preservation and maintenance of the Statehouse. To develop a funding process and to secure funding for the restoration and preservation of the Statehouse. To determine and prioritize major restoration and preservation projects. To advise on physical organization and use of the Statehouse and Statehouse grounds. When you own a treasured land mark, the controlling factor is not what you want to spend, it is what you need to spend. When the objective is To Do It Right, to do it less than right opens the floodgates of criticism. The Historical Structure Report(HSR) and Master Plan provides a greatly enhanced vision of previously hidden conditions, reducing the number of unknowns and their effect on cost variability. The HSR also identifies what remains unknown and is a budget variable; the quantity of historic decorative painting on walls and ceilings. Based on the cost of preserving other state capitols, the specifics of this project, and variability factors, the current cost estimate is $138,000,000. As time progresses these numbers will become more refined by the project team. Kansas State Capitol Renovation:
