The 150th anniversary of the Marais des Cygnes Massacre was commemorated May 19, 2008. Senator Sam Brownback was the featured speaker and explained the importance of the site in our nation's history. Students from Pleasanton High School were in attendance to support their peeer Riley Albert Hinds, a Boy Scout who cleared brush at the site as part of his Eagle Scout Badge.
