December 2008/January 2009 - "President Abraham Linoln"
A big thank you to our readers who sent in Story Starter stories!
If I could talk to President Lincoln today, I would tell him how
much the U.S. has changed. I would thank him for freeing the slaves.
Then I would tell him that because he freed the slaves. We went from
freeing the African Americans to having an African American President.
In this 2008 election on November 4th Barack Obama was elected
the first black President.
Another thing is that he is now on the penny, the five dollar
bill and Mount Rushmore along with Presidents George Washington, Thomas
Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt.
Also about the technology we have today, from TVs to video games
to computer systems.
Then I would tell him about the terrorist attacks in 2001. Terrorists
from Iraq came to the U.S. Two planes crashed into and took down the
two tallest buildings in New York City called the Twin Towers. Another
plane crashed into the Pentagon. The last plane was headed for the White
House, but it ended up in a field in Pennsylvania. That day is what
started the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. A lot of things have changed
since you were President, but some things wouldn’t without you.
I just wish he could be here to see what life was like today.

If I could talk to President Lincoln, I would tell him about TVs
and computers and how they work. I would tell him how good of a President
he was for freeing the slaves and because no one should be held against
their will because of the color of their skin. I would tell him that
they put his face on money and Mount Rushmore and they made a Lincoln
Memorial. I would tell him about the terrorists attach in September
11, 2001. I would say three jumbo jets flew in to the tallest buildings
in New York City. I would tell him we made history by electing a black
President named Barack Obama. His running mate was senator Joe Biden.
I would tell him he was the tallest President. I would say, he was my
favorite President ever.

If I could talk to President Lincoln today, I would tell him he
is a great President for freeing the slaves. I would also tell him about
the latest election. I would tell him we made history. I would tell
him about the first African American President.
I would tell him about 9-11. I would tell him on September 11,
2001 a plane crashed into the Pentagon. Two planes crashed into the
Twin Towers. And one crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.
I would also tell him about being on money. I would tell him that
he is on the five dollar bill and the penny. I would tell him about
the way of life now from back then. I would also tell him about technology.
The last thing I would tell him about his face being on Mount Rushmore.

If I could talk to president Lincoln today, I would tell him he
was a great president. I wish he was here today to see what it was like.
Today we have computers and tv. On computers you can do re search, play
games, and watch tv. On tv you can watch shows.
In 2001 we had two planes crash into the twin towers. The twin
towers were two very tall towers. Many people died that day.
I have five in my family, a brother, a sister, my dad, my mom,
and me. I would also tell him he was on the five dollar bill and the
penny. We have a black president now so we made history. He was running
against a 74-year-old man with a woman vice president.

If I could talk to President Lincoln today, I would tell him, thank
you for freeing the slaves. We are so happy that you freed the slaves.
Now people have the right to go to school, to pick what job they want,
and all kinds of things. November 4th, 2008 we had the election. The
Presidents who ran against each other were John McCain and Barack Obama.
John McCain running mate for Vice President is Sara Palin. She would
have been the first woman to be Vice President. Barack Obama's Vice
President is Joe Biden. Barack Obama won the united states by a lot
of votes. John McCain won Kansas because Kansas is Republican state.
Barack Obama will go into office January 20, 2009.
On September 11th, 2001, two planes crashed into the Twin Towers
in New York City. That was one day from me being two. My parents and
grandmas were at my house watching it on the news. My sister, my two
brothers, and I were sitting on the couch watching the news too. I didn't
understand what was happing at that time because I was too young to
understand.
You're on the penny and the five-dollar bill. They're making a
silver penny. You were one of the best presidents ever. The president
that's in office now is George W. Bush.
Today life as a child is great because you are free. In one of
our teacher's class rooms it shows the presidents on the wall and you're
one of them. Your face is carved on Mount Rushmore as well.
Andrea Aguilear, fourth grade
If I could talk to President Lincoln today, I would tell him that
he was a great president. I would also tell him about his Vice President
Andrew Johnson. He was also a great President. He was president from
1865-1869. I would tell him about the past Presidents that have been
assassinated.
A very great President that had been assassinated was John F. Kennedy.
He was President from 1961-1963. He was in Dallas, Texas, with his wife
and Vice president. Someone shot a bullet into his head. I wasn’t
alive, but he was my dad’s favorite president and when I was younger
he told me about it.
Because of you, in January 2009, an African-American elected president
will be in office. If you didn’t free the slaves, Barack Obama
wouldn’t have a chance. Barack is a Democrat. Lincoln, you are
the one who made our country better!
Haley White, fifth grade
If I could talk to President Lincoln today, I would tell him that
he is on the five dollar bill and the penny. Next I would tell him that
he has a statue just for him. It is called the Lincoln Memorial. I would
thank him for freeing the slaves.
The next thing I would tell him is that 9-11 happened and terrorists
hit the Twin Towers. One plane tried to hit the White house. One hit
the Pentagon it was very tragic thousands of people died and now we
are trying to catch them. Next I would tell him that he is my favorite
President.
Next he had a bust named after him. Next He had a really tall hat.
Next He is the tallest President. Finally he was the 16th President.
Kyle Kizzar, fifth grade
If I could talk to President Lincoln today, I would tell him thank
you for freeing the slaves. I would also tell him that I used to have
a hat just like his. There was an election not to long ago, I voted
for Obama. The canidates that were running were Obama and McCain. OBAMA
WON!
I’d also tell him that the Twin Towers crashed. Two planes
crashed into them. It was so sad. Today the gasoline is over priced.
It was over three dollars. But now it is less than three dollars.
TV is fun to watch. It comes in handy when you are bored. It also
comes in handy to watch the Thanksgiving parade. Thanksgiving is coming
up. I will be having two Thanksgiving dinners. Computers also come in
handy. I love playing on the computer. Well got to go. BYE.

If I could talk to President Lincoln today, I would tell him about
9/11 and how it affected life in the world today. I would tell him how
the Twin Towers went down. As a result of the terrorists attack, and
the jumbo jets that crashed into the buildings a lot of people died
that day. One jet tried to destroy the White House, but it failed, because
of the way the people on board forced the plane down in a field.
If I could talk to president Lincoln today, I would tell him that
he is on the 5-dollar bill. He is also on the penny and it is so cool
to spend him today.
If I could talk to president Lincoln today, I would tell him about
my family and how my family loves me and how cool my Mom is. My Dad
is as cool as my Mom is.
December Taverner, fifth grade
If I could talk to President Lincoln today, I would tell him that
you are one of the best Presidents. Thank you for ending slavery. I
wish you were still alive. You were very tall. It would be cool to see
you. If you were alive, I would want to meet you at the White House.
I think you are one of the best presidents because you did the right
thing. Thank you for doing that.
I heard that Kansas was not very much of a slave state. I live
in central Kansas with a bit fenced in yard. It is white. Kansas is
a good state. I like Oklahoma, as well. Mr. Short, my teachers has a
picture of you on his wall. He thinks you are a very good president,
too.
It is fun to be a kid now. We have electricity now. We can get
on the internet and play games. It is fun and cool. We have phones and
they are Razors. You can text your friends. My dad and mom have a Playstation
2 and it can run videos and games. They have car games so you can blow
up cars. It is cool and I have a TV. We get to watch rap music videos.
I am faster than anyone when I play football. It is fun to win sometimes.
We have wrestling. I almost went to state, but a kid was crying so I
gave up but it was fun anyway. I am going to wrestle again. It is my
favorite sport. This time I hope I don’t have a kid who cries.
I am not good at reading. I need help on some words. I am supposed to
be on a higher level but I am not in that level yet. I am in level 300-400.
It is easy. I am good at math and science. I have some star wars items
that I collect. They are worth a lot of money. I have all three star
wars movies.

If I could talk to President Lincoln today, I would tell him thank
you for freeing the slaves. I wish you were still here. I wish you were
still President today.
I have four people in my family. My name is Justin. Obama won the
presidential election. You are on a picture in my classroom. You are
on Mount Rushmore.
Planes hit the Twin Towers. It was a big disaster. Planes hit the
Pentagon. Planes were forced down into a field in Pennsylavania.
I have a Xbox 360. It is a system that plays games. It is a really
cool system. You can play cool games.

If I could talk to President Lincoln I would tell him that his
face is on the penny, the five-dollar bill, and is on Mount Rushmore.

In the latest election Obama won against McCain. I don’t know
what to think about him.

was an awesome President, who happens to be my favorite President as

I have six awesome friends their names are: Justin, Jade, Ryan,
Ty, Andrea, and Kebren. They are very nice to me. I have five sisters
and their names are Riley, Maudie, Alexis, Tierra, and Taylor. I have
two brothers named Dakota and Devin. Devin died a long time ago. My
parents split up too. I wish Devin was still here today. My best friend’s
name is Mackenzie Oberle. She supports me in every thing. She is also
Justin’s little sister. My little sister’s name is Maudie.
She is really funny.

I am sad that happened. My teacher has a picture of you in his classroom.
We have a new president. His name is Barack Obama. He is cool just like
