  • Served in U.S. Army during World War I, later became an attorney
  • Served as American Legion National Commander 1936-1937
  • Wrote in longhand on hotel stationery what would later become adopted by Congress as G.I. Bill of Rights
  • Colmery-O’Neil VA Hospital in Topeka named for him
