| The objective of offering imaging services at the Kansas Historical Society is to provide patrons with quality reproductions of materials in the Society’s collections. Electronic scans of photographs and other materials in the State Archives & Library will be produced consistent with the characteristics of the original photograph, negative, map, manuscript, or printed material. The imaging technicians will not make any adjustments or manipulate images. When you are ordering scans, please indicate the resolution, scan file type, tonality and delivery method. more info...
Electronic Scan Fee
Delivery MethodFiles under 5MB can be e-mailed directly to the patron unless otherwise specified. Items more than 5MB will be burned to a CD-ROM or DVD and mailed directly to the patron (or can be picked up).
Black & White and Color PrintsAll prints are produced from digital images and available in a glossy finish.

TransparenciesSlides and 4x5 transparencies can be produced and duplicated through a local vendor. Staff will provide a cost estimate for this service. Image Lab ScheduleAllow ten working days for the delivery of scanned images.
Studio Assignment ChargesAll studio assignments, such as photographing museum and archeology artifacts, will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. The charge for this service is $25.00 per hour. This charge is in addition to scan and print costs. A cost estimate will be provided for scheduled assignments. PaymentPLEASE DO NOT SEND MONEY WITH YOUR ORDER . We

ResolutionA measurement of clarity or detail most commonly expressed in terms of dots per inch (dpi). Recommended minimum resolution for publication is 300 dpi. Scan File TypeTIFF – a file format where no information is lost to file
compression. TIFF is recognized as an archival file format. |
Tonality Bi-tonal – recommended
primarily for modern printed books without illustrations. |
