Traveling Resource Trunks

Bring Kansas history to you! This exciting series of traveling resource trunks is created for teachers, youth group leaders, museums, libraries, and other Kansans looking for a unique and educational way to share the rich heritage of Kansas with others. Each trunk focuses on a specific topic in Kansas and United States history and contains many high-quality reproductions of historical artifacts, and primary source documents and photographs for your students to have a personal experience with the past. This is a great way for students to learn historical thinking skills, practice asking questions about the past, study history from multiple-perspectives, and share their knowledge through creative activities. A teacher's manual is included. The trunks have suggested grade levels but can be borrowed for any age group. Search our database for educational programs.

Trunks can be reserved for up to a four-week period. Reservations begin and end on a Wednesday.  They will be shipped out on Wednesday, or borrowers can make arrangements to pick them up at their convenience at the Kansas Historical Society in Topeka.

A handling fee is charged for each trunk. The fee is $20 for trunks reserved for use before July 1, 2015.  Handling fees will be reviewed in January 2015 for trunks scheduled for use after July 1, 2015.  Borrowers will be invoiced a month before the reservation begins.  Handling fees are refundable for cancellations with a minimum of two weeks notice.  For more information about the traveling resource trunks read the Guidelines for Traveling Resource Trunks.

Trunks are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and some trunk calendars fill up quickly.  We recommend making your reservation early when at all possible.  Your order will not be final until you receive an e-mail or written confirmation.
