Scope and content: Information typically provided in the registers includes the name/sex/what child number it is to the mother (first, second, etc.), race, date and place of birth, nationality/place of birth/age of both parents, full names of parents including mother's maiden name, father's occupation, name and address for attendant at the birth, and the name of the individual filling out the birth certificate and returning the information. Later volumes provided more concise and sometimes different information, such as concerning the difficulty of the labor, and not all information was filled out for every birth. In chronological order; volumes contain alphabetical indexes.
