Scope and content: The naturalization petitions for soldiers are identical to the petition and record series, also known as second papers. These show name; address; age; race; sex; physical description; occupation; date and place of origin; date and place of arrival in U.S.; country renounced; names, ages and residence of children; date of declaration of intention; and orders in court granting or denying citizenship. May include photographs. Arranged chronologically, indexed by surname. These individuals were naturalized under an act of Congress on May 9, 1918, allowing veterans to be naturalized without filing a declaration of intent and reducing the five year residence requirement down to one year.
