Scope and content: Civil case files from the cities of Independence and Coffeyville. These can include inventories, pleadings, summonses, subpoenas, motions, affidavits, court orders, instructions to juries, jury verdicts, journal entries, and other original instruments. All of these documents were usually filed in a large cardboard enclosure known as a "jacket," which was labeled on the spine or front with the case number and plaintiff/defendant, then filed in sequential order. Before 1903 civil and criminal case files were filed together and can be found in series 59570.
