"The Forgotten Senator: The Life and Character of Preston B. Plumb" - Johanna Wickman, author
Discover the life of one of Kansas' most powerful and forgotten U.S. Senators, who not only transformed Kansas, but the United States during his time in office. Preston B. Plumb smuggled weapons to Kansas Territory for the Free State movement, founded the town of Emporia, served in the Kansas State legislature, rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel of the 11th Kansas Volunteer Cavalry, and spent a significant 14 years in the U.S. Senate before dying tragically at the age of 54. Plumb's impact can be felt today in the U.S. through the creation of the U.S. Forest Service, the Department of Agriculture, and the creation of Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. Speaker Johanna Wickman is the author of The Forgotten Senator: The Life and Character of Preston B. Plumb.
