Arthur Mann was born June 28, 1877, in England. He came to America as a young child. He married Ida May Smith on August 24, 1904. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1906 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. His career began with railroad and municipal engineering. He formed an architectural partnership after a year’s work in the field. After 14 years as a partner, he established his own firm, Mann and Company in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was a member of the Hutchinson Engineers Club, American Concrete Institute, American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers, Hutchinson Rotary Club and was a member and president of the Kansas Chapter, American Institute of Architects. He was a member of several fraternal organizations and attended Trinity Methodist Church. He died on July 7, 1968, in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Robert E Mann, the son of Arthur and Ida May (Smith) Mann, was born on June 12, 1909. Like his father, he is also a graduate of the University of Kansas. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture in 1932. Upon graduation he became a draftsman in his father’s firm and in 1937, a partner. He designed major additions on more than one occasion for the Memorial Union at the University of Kansas. He married Shirley Jones in 1938. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, several fraternal organizations, Heart of America Chapter of the Illuminating Engineers Society, Construction Specification Institute, KU Alumni Association, and president of the Kansas Chapter, American Institute of Architects. He died on February 15, 2000, in Hutchinson.
They designed the Republic County Courthouse and Dodge City Municipal Building, listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
