George and Taylor Families
The fourth generation of the Taylor and George newspaper family runs two weekly newspapers (formerly seven) in southeast Kansas. The George family got involved in newspaper publishing well over 100 years ago. The first paper didn’t make it but the Altamount Journal did. Frank E. George started as a printer’s devil and learned about newspapers from the ground up as did his five children. George was heavily involved in the community and Republican party politics. The children also became involved in newspapers, community affairs and politics.
The family adopted the new technologies in newspapers quite quickly and became very successful printers as well as newspaper people. The family continued to expand its scope of activities. Kathy George Taylor and her husband, Rudy, along with their son Andy, his wife, Amy, and sister Jenny continue the family’s part in the history of Kansas newspaper families.
