Kansas Telephone and City Directories
What are telephone and city directories?
The Kansas Historical Society research collections contain both published city directories and telephone books for the state of Kansas. Telephone directories list adult residents, their addresses, and their phone numbers. City directories can list additional information about reside, including occupation, the address of their business, and whether they own their home.
Many of these directories have been microfilmed and can be borrowed through interlibrary loan. Online sources for Kansas directories include:
- Some Kansas State Gazetteer and Business Directories for 1878-1912 are on Kansas Memory.
- In partnership with Ancestry.com, we have digitized many Kansas directories up to 1963; Kansas residents can use them for free by logging in with a Kansas Driver's License through our Ancestry portal.
- Some Kansas directories are available free on MyHeritage.com's Compilation of Published Sources website.
