Kaw Mission and Last Chance Store Museums

Exciting plans are underway at Kaw Mission and Last Chance Store Museums on the Santa Fe Trail. Please excuse our dust during this reinterpretation phase. These state historic site locations in Council Grove will reopen as part of the 200th anniversary of the Santa Fe Trail in 2021. Here in the midst of an international commerce trail the people of the Kaw Nation were relocated. Hundreds of wagon trains filled with goods to trade with Mexico and speculators headed to the gold fields passed daily through this community. Be watching for more information about this project.

During the reinterpretation phase our Kaw Mission Councils Series will continue at The Carnegie, 303 West Main, courtesy of the Morris County Historical Society. The Friends of Kaw Heritage support the site through event planning and fund raising. For more information call 620-767-5410.
